What personal data do we collect and why
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the IP address and browser user agent string to help prevent spam.
An anonymized string (hash) created from your email may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy can be found here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of the comment.
Media
If you upload images to the site, you should avoid images with embedded geodata (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the site can download and extract location information from these images.
Cookies
If you leave a comment, you may choose to save your name, email, and website in cookies for your convenience so that you do not have to fill them in again the next time you comment. These cookies last for 1 year.
If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to check if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will set several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for 2 days, and screen options cookies last for 1 year. If you select "Remember Me", your login will persist for 2 weeks. If you log out of your account, these cookies are removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser containing the article ID. It does not contain personal data and is deleted after 1 day.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may contain embedded content (videos, images, articles, etc.). This content behaves in the exact same way as if you had visited the relevant website directly.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed third-party trackers, and monitor your activity on that content, especially if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
How long do we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely to allow us to recognize and automatically approve future comments.
For registered users (where possible), we store the personal data they provide in their profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their own data (except their username). Administrators can do this too.
What rights do you have over your data
If you have an account on the site or have left comments, you can request that we export your personal data, including anything you have provided to us. You can also request that we delete this data. This does not apply to information we are required to retain for legal, administrative, or security reasons.
